BIRTHDAY THANK YOU!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH to all of you who wrote to wish me a happy birthday, and to Margaret who posted the lovely card on the blog! It was a wonderful day. We gave a Canada presentation to a class of cooks and waiters (19 yr.olds) , had a birthday pizza lunch out, had our first kids club class, and had a surprise birthday cake at Shaun and Sondi's on the way home. Birthday singers were accompanied on the piano by Kelen, 8, who learned the birthday song just for the occasion!

We got off to a great start with all our lessons and devotionals this week. Monday we had 2 ladies and a first-time man at a Bible Study, Tuesday we had 3 teen boys for a class and devotional plus Dave had a Bible Study with 1 man , Wednesday was the above mentioned club, and tonight we had a fantastic time with about 25 people, first in 3 different English classes,  and then about 16 stayed for singing and Dave's devotional on Mark. We've met so many warm and friendly people this week and Shaun, Sondi and Magdolna have been a tremendous support to us in helping us get settled!! We thank God for His strength and help during this very busy week of "firsts".

SOME CHALLENGES OR THINGS THAT WE ARE GETTING USED TO:
-Who would have thought all those much disliked Saturday morning German lessons when I was a kid would come in handy here in Hungary?! God has a sense of humour. Anyway, it has helped us communicate with at least a dozen people since we arrived a week ago! The few Hungarian words are sort of understood.
-the metal dish drain has to double as a cookie rack when baking!
-using a gas oven that has no temperature control to read (so glad I brought an oven thermometer!)
-different textures of flour and sugar than I am used to
-getting OUT of our locked entrance gate (the key is kind of cranky)

-getting INTO the same locked gate on the way back home!
-having a tiny fridge so Dave can't save up on sale items as usual!
-all the signs are in Hungarian!! : )
-getting used to our big meal at about 1-2 p.m., then a snack after classes about 8:30 p.m.
Just "doing life" takes a lot more of our time than we thought. THis weekend will be the adventure of the first laundry experience! The washing machine has a metal barrel inside, and is pretty small. We don't have a dryer and it is too cold to put clothes outside, so it will be interesting.
